Maria Cabrera, MA

Legal Name: Maria Del Carmen Gurrola-Cabrera

Associate Marriage and Family Therapist #103705

Supervised by Tiffany Ann Dzioba, PsyD, LMFT #51595

I am an English and Spanish speaking therapist. I believe change improves our quality of life. When we are better able to approach various aspects of life, nurture healthy relationships, make progress in school or at work, we feel good. My approach is to help clients add to their existing positive coping skills in order to decrease distress, fortify resilience, and uplift awareness of healthier ways of solving problems.

I use a collaborative and strength-based approach to understand your story, your needs, your best vision for the future. You are the expert as we create solutions for stress, uncomfortable moods, unwanted habits, and/or depression. I am especially comfortable working with clients who have experienced traumas including physical changes after accidents, childhood abuse, Domestic Violence (DV), and temporary homelessness. I am also helpful in the support of caretakers, families dealing with special education, and families dealing with dementia.

I am a Mental Health provider because it allows me to be a part of your support system. I have seen the benefits of learning to be mindful of the connections between our thoughts, emotions, and behavior, particularly in cases of trauma or high stress. I choose to practice at growURpotential where therapists with healing-justice mindsets work together to do restorative work in our community.

Maria holds a Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology and is a Registered Associate Marriage & Family Therapist with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. The services provided by Maria are supervised by Our Clinical Team

We are a nonprofit community counseling agency, committed to expanding access to supportive services. With compassion, collaboration, and respect we provide affordable mental health care including programs that strengthen adults, youth, families, and communities.

We believe mental health care is a right, not a privilege. By providing affordable mental health services and effective community programs we increase access and utilization of supportive services that contribute to improved adult, youth, and family functioning. We are certain this will lead to fortified communities in Los Angeles.

We are sincerely grateful to Our Board Members for their support and invaluable guidance.
